The event is among the most eagerly anticipated on the Rolex SailGP Championship calendar. The Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix is the only freshwater lake course in SailGP, bringing adrenaline-fuelled racing to Lake Geneva, a long-established sailing hub.
A strategic battleground
Lake Geneva, known also as Lac Léman, is one of Europe’s great inland bodies of water, stretching 73 kilometres along the Swiss-French border and framed by the Alps on one side and the Jura mountains on the other.
The narrowness of Lake Geneva makes for a strategic battleground, especially between race marks where handling of the F50 foiling catamarans and tactics become crucial. It presents a technically distinctive challenge: the lake’s wind patterns are driven by thermals, valley effects and the mountain geography rather than open-ocean conditions, creating unpredictable shifts and requiring constant tactical adaptation from every crew.
