Jean Troillet began his career in the Swiss Alps, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for climbing.

He obtained his mountain guide certification in 1969. That same year, he set a speed record for ascending the Matterhorn in just four hours and 10 minutes.

Troillet has climbed 10 peaks over 8,000 metres, all in alpine style and without supplemental oxygen, showcasing his exceptional skill and endurance. His achievements include a pioneering ascent of Everest via the North Face in 1986, completed without supplemental oxygen, and numerous first ascents in the Karakoram and Himalayas. Troillet’s climbing style is characterized by speed and efficiency, often opting for alpine-style ascents. In 1997, he became the first man to descend the North Face of Mt Everest on a snowboard.

In addition to his Himalayan exploits, Troillet has also been involved in various adventurous pursuits. In 2001, he joined forces with Mike Horn and Erhard Loretan to attempt a world record crossing of Greenland on skis powered by kites.

His contributions to the sport extend beyond climbing, as he shares his experiences through writing and public speaking, inspiring a new generation of adventurers.
