Junior karting and single-seater racing – Nyck de Vries has enjoyed a varied and successful driving career, but it is in endurance racing that he has particularly excelled.
From karting to world championships
Born in the Netherlands in 1995, Nyck de Vries began karting at an early age and quickly progressed through the ranks, capturing the attention with his precision and maturity. He claimed back-to-back CIK-FIA Karting World Championships in 2010 and 2011 before moving into single-seater racing. After several seasons in junior formulae, he won the 2019 FIA Formula 2™ Championship, the primary feeder series to Formula 1®. That same year, de Vries started to make his mark in endurance racing, helping Racing Team Nederland to a maiden victory in the LMP2 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship, at the 6 Hours of Fuji. Emphasizing his versatility, the following year he secured the 2020–21 Formula E World Championship with Mercedes-EQ.
De Vries enjoyed some success in Formula 1®. After being a test driver for various teams, in 2022 he was called up at short notice to make a notable, points-scoring debut for Williams at the Italian Grand Prix, and then competed for the AlphaTauri team the following season.
Back in endurance racing, in 2024 while competing for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing in the leading Hypercar class, he celebrated a major victory at the 6 Hours of Imola and a second place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans to finish third in the FIA WEC championship. The following year, he savoured a victory at the 8 Hours of Bahrain and remains a key member as the team strives for further honours.
