Lindsey Vonn, an American alpine ski racer, has left an indelible mark on the sport with her exceptional talent and determination.
She boasts a long list of triumphs across multiple disciplines on the World Cup circuit, as well as at the world championships and Olympic Games.
Lindsey Vonn’s journey in skiing began in Minnesota, where she developed her skills from a young age.
With more than 80 World Cup victories to her name, for years she held the record for the most wins by a female skier. Her prowess extended across all alpine disciplines, making her one of only six women to win World Cup races in all five events – downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, and super combined. Vonn’s Olympic achievements include a gold medal in downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Games – a first for an American woman – and bronze medals in 2010 and 2018. Her dominance in speed events is particularly noteworthy, with a record eight World Cup season titles in downhill and five in super-G. Vonn’s four FIS World Cup overall Crystal Globes (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012) place her among the most successful skiers in history.
Vonn’s resilience in the face of numerous injuries throughout her career has been inspirational. Having retired from competition in 2019, she made a comeback nearly six years later, returning to the place where she feels most at home – the top of the mountain. With this latest chapter, Vonn has demonstrated that her passion for the sport and competing remains very much a driving force as she resumes the pursuit of performance excellence that has defined her career. Vonn’s influence extends beyond her competitive achievements, as she continues to inspire the next generation of winter athletes.
