Explorer

Essential qualities

A constantly improved companion

The Oyster Perpetual Explorer was among the first of Rolex’s Professional watches. Combining chronometric precision, remarkable legibility and exceptional robustness, it offers the essential qualities needed to accompany both explorers and all those who push their own limits.

Explorer

Numerals 3, 6, 9 and Chromalight display
Optimal legibility

Thanks to the high contrast of its iconic black dial featuring the 3, 6 and 9 numerals and a Chromalight display, the Explorer guarantees optimal legibility in all circumstances.

Oyster case
Flawless armour

The Explorer is available in 36 mm and 40 mm and is completely waterproof and dustproof thanks to its Oyster case.

Twinlock winding crown
The double waterproofness system

The Twinlock winding crown, unveiled in 1953, presents two waterproofness zones. It plays an important role in guaranteeing the Explorer’s waterproofness to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet).

Oyster bracelet
Iconic and robust

Developed in the late 1930s, the Oyster bracelet remains the most widely used among Rolex watches. The Explorer’s Oyster bracelet is also equipped with the Oysterlock safety clasp.

Oystersteel
Durability and refinement

The Explorer 36 and 40 models are available in Oystersteel, an exclusive alloy that retains its shine even when the watch is put to extreme use.

Calibre 3230

Calibre 3230
Innovation in motion

The Explorer 36 and Explorer 40 are powered by calibre 3230. Entirely developed and manufactured in-house, this self-winding mechanical movement incorporates Rolex’s latest innovations.
