The opening instalment in a season of captivating action

The first date on the Grand Slam® calendar. The Australian Open is seen as a fresh start as ranking points in the men’s ATP Race and the women’s WTA Race are reset.

The tournament is played in January on the hard courts of Melbourne Park. Following the off-season, players return reinvigorated to a friendly atmosphere, ready to get the new campaign off to the best possible start.

The finals are contested in front of almost 15,000 spectators at the Rod Laver Arena, the central court at the Melbourne Park sports complex.
